First Week Blogging Notes (21st – 27th May 2024)

I finally started posting on my blog from 21st May 2024. Not this blog, mind you, but another one that I sort of started in June 2023. All the Blogging Notes and Progress Reports will be based on that blog till further notice.

So, a little on the background – I had been interested in blogging for more than a year before I even thought of starting my own blog – and this was way back in 2015. I love writing – be it random food for thought stuff or poetry and such – as well collecting quotes, sayings etc. So, I wanted to start a blog that had all of these in one place so I thought – why not a blog? Since its stored online – I wouldn’t have to worry about where I put my notebook or those sheets of paper with little quotes and thoughts.

That lead to buying a domain and creating a super simple basic website that literally had nothing else but my poems that I wrote for my school projects. And I was posting it from my phone. Imagine the Horror! After actually prioritizing blogging and thinking of it as a way to earn money – I sometimes still can’t believe how I ever thought I could blog from a phone when desktop was so much easier. Although, for writing on the go and in cases where you don’t have access to it – it’s still a viable way to write. Just that it’s going to be quite difficult to get used to the interface in such a small device.

Nevertheless, I was only able to sparingly work on posting on my very first blog since I was a freshman in university and had hardly much time to focus on anything else that wasn’t academic. Every year – I would renew that domain thinking that would be the year I would be able to prioritize it – that didn’t happen for a long time.

Fast forward to 2020, I gave up on that blog and started a new one based on my course at university since I would have the knowledge authority on it as I had studied it for the last 5 years and thought it would be easier. Graduating in the peak of Covid-19, I was focused on getting a job that was work from home and since I was drastically changing my work domain – from healthcare to business – I was swamped with keeping up with all the new things I was learning and to prove myself.

My blogging interest and making money from writing was something I was still interested in, so I kept going through all the content related to it – be it journey, tips and tricks, basics etc from other bloggers on their own blogs, vlogs, YT etc. I consumed all that information over the course of almost 2 years before I could find the time to actually work on a website of my own.

And that lead to FINALLY buying a domain in June 2023. After much delay, trials and errors (+ a lot of procrastination and wanting to do everything perfectly), I was finally posting consistently from May 2024. The worst part was that I wasted so much time on trying to do everything perfect on my first go at blogging that it kept getting delayed for years on years.

So, this blog will follow my entire journey after I actually started blogging, my struggles, my learnings, expectations (both unrealistic and realistic), timeline and a whole lot of super detailed data.

What did I do in the First 7 Days to grow my blog?

  • Set up my Blog. Installed WordPress, Theme, Plugins, Customized the theme; Added Menus, Categories, Pages
  • Wrote a Blog Post. From all the things I’ve gone through regarding Pinterest SEO – it takes 1-2 months for a pin to pick up in the algorithm. So, I wrote a post which is inclined to seasonal content that was to be in demand from July onwards.
  • Created a few Pins. I mainly just used the Pinterest pin formats already available in Canva for my Pins that would align with my content.

Plans for the Next 7 Days

  • Write 2 Blog Posts. I want to write at least 2 blog posts each week, it doesn’t matter which day I’m writing them – just that they should be written and posted by end of the week.
  • Set up Security Measures for my Website. One of my old websites was hacked through what I think was due to a backdoor from a plugin since I had built that website from Scratch using Elementor.
  • Create at least 3 Pins for each Blog Post. and schedule them.
  • Add Images to Posts. I only wrote the content for it since finding images that were relevant was quite a task in the beginning. That’s all for this week!

See you next week with the updates! Ciao!
